What do you do when the whole world has seen you getting down and dirty in a broom closet?

I, Elle Evans, am on the run.
Not from the fuzz—although that would be more exciting.
No, I’m on the run from the four-year-old private tape that, thanks to my vengeful ex, has probably already ruined my vlogging career.
There’s nothing like the entire world knowing what you look like mid-O.
Creek Keys, Florida, is a million miles away from NYC and the perfect place for me to hide for the rest of summer until I can figure out what I’m going to do.
Something that’s easier said than done since my new landlord’s daughter thinks you’re God’s greatest gift. Even better? Their beach house is right next to the one I’m renting, so there’s no getting away from her—or her hot, British dad.
Who most definitely does not think I’m role model material.
He might be right.
The problem is that neither of us can say no to her.
Or each other.

I devoured Hot Mess like a reading addict.

Elle Evans is a hot mess and I loved her story. I expected this to be a comedy from the start but I was mistaken. It has its moments but this is the story of an ordinary person who found fame. Elle is a normal girl who made her fortune video blogging. She’s become a favourite of pre-teen girls and a New York sweetheart. Unfortunately, her ex is about to put a spanner in the works. A video of them in a compromising position is leaked to the public. Now Elle is on the run from her fame. She finds herself on a small seaside island, Creek Keys. The locals turn out to be her saviour.

Meet Theo. The hot British guy with a cute kid. He owns a few holiday homes and isn’t interested in dating. Never mind entertaining the scandal Elle is living. As he gets to know her he realises she’s not who he thought she was.

There is an important underlying message to this book. People get carried away with thinking about the image others portray of their perfect lives. Underneath we are all just living our lives.

Don’t worry we still get the quirky family members, great chemistry romance and a leading lady with sass.

Loved it.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This will be available on KU.

This is short. And a quick read besides. It's the right length for the story as it isn't terribly complicated. The wish fulfillment is interesting and I liked seeing Elle deal with where she's going to take her vlogging career now that she has been hit with revenge porn from an ex.

Theo was fun to get to know, too. And his daughter didn't hurt. Again, the story isn't terribly complicated, but it is well-told. So getting to see him go from frosty concerned-dad to appreciating Elle's humor and kindness over time was engaging.

This probably doesn't deserve the four stars I'm giving it. But I laughed out loud a bunch, and the ending was touching and made me cry. And that's never not appreciated. So four stars it is.

A note about professionalism: The editing on this story is atrocious. Seriously, glaring errors are frequent and intrusive. It's pretty clear that nobody even a little bit capable took a pass at this for editing purposes. If this kind of thing bothers you, like at all, give the story a pass.

A note about Steamy: I thought it'd actually stay chaste, as the single explicit sex scene happens way towards the end. And it's completely gratuitous, frankly, and the whole thing would have been better without it. The emotional intimacy was already competently established and we really didn't need to see the nekkid bits. And it was short, too, so barely trips the wire in any case.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

This was a very easy read from Emma Hart. Elle and Theo were both great characters, even though they don't get off to the best start. I could totally understand Theo's reluctance though. Ari was a great character and huge part of this book too, which was wonderful.

Some fun secondary characters, but some of the themes are getting a bit repetitive at the same time from this author. That's just a personal opinion though.

I liked that this book, whilst very easy to read, still dealt with some really serious and adult issues, and they were explained and handled in a really great way. Big props for that.

This was a very easy read and had some great characters, so if you're looking for something positive, this is a good choice.

Sadly I read this very tepid mess of a book - 1.5*

This is a reminder to myself to not read books by this author no matter what a friend says. I honestly wonder if the so called author actually wrote it. If she did she needs a better editor and probably to repeat grade 8 English. If she hired a teenager in a non- English speaking country she might consider reading it before putting her name to it. A dictionary would be a good investment for whomever is writing it. So many words used incorrectly. Yes it really was that poorly crafted.

The general story was fine. Low angst, decent message, nearly PG rated. There is a single sex scene that is about a paragraph in length. In fact the whole romance part was pretty much missing. The story was barely fleshed out and made huge jumps. But given that many, many, many sentences were missing words the missing story parts are no surprise. One chapter was just missing at least a paragraph, probably more. The up side of all those missing words is that it was mercifully short.

Hot Mess is the latest romantic comedy from author Emma Hart. Hot Mess follows the story of Elle Evans, famous Vlogger, whose life gets turned upside down by a vengeful ex. Because of the mess her ex created, Elle finds herself escaping New York for Creek Keys, FL. It’s just the right place to hide out from the world until she can figure out what to do next. What she didn’t plan on, was meeting Theo. Theo is less than thrilled about having to help Elle out, but there is just something about her that stops him from turning Elle away. It doesn’t hurt that Elle is Theo’s daughter’s idol, but there’s more to it than that. While Theo is helpful and provides Elle a much needed place to escape, he thinks he’s got her all figured out, but he could’t be further from the truth. The more time Theo spends with Elle, the more he sees that there is more to Elle than meets the eye. Will Elle get her life set straight and return back to New York??? There’s only one way to find out….

Hot Mess was a really cute read. I absolutely adored Elle and thought she handled her scandal pretty well. I mean, it’s not everyday that you find out your ex made a tape of the two of you together and it gets released to the wild. Despite fleeing from New York, Elle handled her situation with grace and did her best to not only set the record straight, but also find the evidence to prove that her ex is truly scum. And poor Theo, when he meets Elle, the last thing he wants to do is help a tourist who is down on their luck. As much as Theo wants to tell her no, he can’t stop himself from helping her out. His daughter Ari was adorable as well. She looked up to Elle and completely idolized her for the videos she made. Ari reminded me a lot of my own preteen daughters who love to watch YouTube and have their own Vloggers that they idolize.

I had a lot of fun getting to know Elle and Theo. I thought they were a lot of fun and even though Theo came off a little brash in the beginning, there was a lot more to him than meets the eye. I loved getting to see Theo and Elle together. Theo’s daughter was a joy to be around. The little old ladies in the story were a total riot–you’re just going to have to read this for yourself to understand what I’m talking about.

Hot Mess was a fun read from beginning to end. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and their story. Hot Mess was an easy, breezy light read that is sure to leave you laughing and with a huge smile on your face. It is the prefect book to spend your afternoon getting lost in. I hope you’ll check out Hot Mess and that you’ll fall in love with Theo & Elle, as I have.

A sexy single dad with a yummy British accent and a kind-hearted vlogger on the run from her ex’s cyber attack against her reputation–what a setup, right? Throw in some unconventional locals and a precocious nine-year-old and you’ve got a recipe for (totally entertaining) mayhem.

Hot Mess was just what I needed after reading a few darker, heavier books in a row. Even though this was about the heroine’s ex using revenge porn to try to bring her down a while after they broke up, the rest of the story was fun, flirty, and our cast was just so endearing that I smiled the whole time. And who can’t use some laughs right about now? Read More

Theo has no filter on him, “Well, you curl your hair on the internet. I didn’t know you needed a degree for that.” ***t. I didn’t mean to say that out loud." Elle is a ballsy woman, "...and if you tell me now you’re not interested in dating me, I’m going to bury you under that goddamn deck. Alive.” I liked this book, I loved Theo.

***4 Stars***

This was a fun, quick, heart warming read filled with a cast of unique/eccentric characters that I definitely wouldn’t mind spending a lot more time with, even if it meant having to bleach my eyes after to do it.

Elle and Theo were all kinds of fun. Elle is sweet, sassy, a little snarky and genuine, also a bit of a klutz, but it only made it that much easier to love her. Theo is a bit of a grump, but that’s only because he is so hellbent on putting his daughter first that he tends to forget to just be Theo.

Their journey to their HEA was a lot of fun. They start off rocky, but due to their close proximity, they find themselves spending a lot more time with each other than either expected and find that their initial impressions were not all that valid. I loved their bantering and flow and how much fun it was to just hang out with them and loved how everything worked out for them in the end.

This was simply a fun read. It was funny, but not totally OTT ~ okay there were moments, but they all made sense considering the participants were ~ and I liked the way social media was presented in the book in all its good, bad and ugly glory without glorifying any one part. And then there are the supporting cast of characters in the book. The CKCK crew were awesome! A little OTT, but awesome. Blair was hilarious, and I wouldn’t mind her as a BFF at all and Arielle was the perfect precocious nine year old, but Charity was my hands down fav of the bunch. So, if you’re looking for a fun single parent read with a lot of heart, then this is a much click for you!

So. Not much to say. It was a really quick, insta-love, summer romance.

I expected since it had only 160 pages.
I felt no connection with the characters, or with the romance. I feel like a serious story like should be more explored and I felt like the book didn't do it enough. She found a easy solution, and it was easily solved, when in real life we know it's not like that. Again, expected since the book is 160 pages only.
It could be a much better book with it was longer, I think. We could really dig in Elle's feels about what happened to her, learn more about Theo, and about his life as a single dad, even about the Conspiracy Krew (with a k) who were a pretty funny plot. But it felt rushed.

Cute and quick read thought.

Nice romance, needs a proof reader

I enjoyed the characters and the story. EH is one of the more tame romance writers I’ve read. This book seriously needs a copy editor. After the 5th chapter I started highlighting all the mistakes. It’s just frustrating to have read the same sentence more than once because it’s not making sense, only to realize it just needs some proof reading.

I started reading ‘Hot Mess’ by Emma Hart last night and have not been able to put it down. I love her good natured characters and her comedic writing style.

This book is about Elle Evans, a famous vlogger who escapes to Cross Keys amid a sex tape scandal. She knows she was setup, and it threatens all she has worked hard and the reputation she has acquired, therefore she knows she needs to leave her New York apartment, and find herself and determine what her life will be like after the tape.

Theo is a landlord to beach houses in Cross Keys and happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when Elle needs a place to stay. He reluctantly allows her to rent the only house he has available which is a work in progress, and due to Elle’s desperation she happily accepts. Unfortunately Theo is less than welcoming assuming that she is not someone he would want around his young daughter Ari. But soon he realises that there’s no stopping him or his daughter from becoming captivated by the mysterious Elle.

This book had such a feel good factor about it. I loved Ari and Theo, and the CKCK crew are absolutely hilarious. I could not help chuckling at how outrageous Elsie and her friends were. It was an easy read with easy to love characters, and I can not recommend enough.

Perfect book for romantic comedy lovers, anyone who enjoys a good chick lit book, and someone just looking for a read that will put a smile on their face.

Our heroine's life might be a bit of a hot mess, but this book certainly wasn't! I can always depend on Emma Hart for light, low angst rom coms and this was the perfect example of that. It's a quick, fun read with plenty of dialogue and characters you can relate to. This single dad is pretty darn adorable, and the whole story is just a light, sweet read. Hot Mess isn't as sexy as some of the books Hart's been writing recently, but I really didn't miss that at all - the slow burn definitely works here.

The story follows Elle, a vlogger from New York who flees the city after a video is leaked of her getting it on in a closet. Though she had no knowledge of the video until it was released by her spiteful ex, it's done a number on the clean and wholesome image that her viewers have come to expect. When Elle meets single dad Theo, he reluctantly gives her a place to stay and companionship as she tries to figure out what to do with her life. Though Theo initially thinks Elle is a bad influence on his daughter, it's not long before he realizes that his first impression was all wrong.

This is the kind of book you can read in one sitting - it's not super long, it reads quickly, and there's never a lull in the story. Elle and Theo are both great characters, so it was easy to feel the chemistry. Add in a cute little girl and this rom com was all kinds of family fun. I loved that Hart went with the slow burn, keeping things light and fun while these two get to know each other better. I can't quite put my finger on what holds me back from calling this 5 stars - I liked it from start to finish and was engaged the whole time, but it was perhaps missing that something special to make it a memorable read. It probably could've benefited from a slightly longer length and a couple more chemistry-filled moments, but that's really the only criticism I can think of. All in all, it's the kind of book I love to read from Emma Hart, and I'm looking forward to what's next from her. I received an ARC via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review of this rom com.

Hot Mess by Emma Hart is a quirky, refreshing, funny , feisty romcom that has lots of fun , romance and humor. I loved me some  Elle and Theo 💕. This is a slowburn romance where the characters are not in love at first sight but where the chemistry is really there from the start. Elle is a vlogger who is running from a scandel and lands in a small town where Theo lives. Theo is a hot, single dad whose young daughter looks up to Elle. Theo ends up becoming Elle's landlord and without giving more of the story away, their chemistry blossoms. Will Theo and Elle get their HEA? This story does a good job with getting messages out about social media; also loved Theo's daughter and the cute relationship she had with Elle. This was a sweet, funny, feisty romcom romance that will touch your heart.

Hot Mess is a quick, fun romantic comedy! Ellie and Theo have undeniable chemistry and so many moments that made me laugh out loud! The slow-burn romance was perfect and the secondary characters were the best! This story also dealt with internet safety and I love how the author handled the topic.

Run, that would be anyone's first instinct when a very, very private moment is videoed and sold, both without your knowledge. When you run out of space and finally stop, you then slowly have to realize it's time to start dealing with the fall out. As you decide to deal, you then start to truly feel a place of comfort and true friendships. This is such a unique story and really good read. The characters are great and hysterical. And what a whirlwind of a life lesson.

Once again Emma Hart’s writing had me giggling at times, and laughing out loud, loudly, at other times. The characters in this were her usual fun people that you want to hang out with, be friends with. And of course, a sexy British guy for a love interest? Who can say no to that? It was definitely fun having the female main character, Elle, as a famous YouTube/Vlogger personality. So famous that even across the country from her home of New York, she was easily recognized by those who either watched the videos for their own enjoyment, or watched them to be involved in their children’s interests. It was also great to read about how she made sure to explain to some of her younger fans about how what they saw wasn’t the whole picture of the person behind the shows.

There was of course the crazy elderly relative as this author really knows how to add to a story in a way that I look forward to. This time a great aunt. I also think the single dad romantic lead is very well done by Hart as well. One thing I always wonder as I read her books is if any of the side characters that are already coupled up possibly were from books before I discovered the author, or if they aren’t coupled up, could we see it in the future?

Two moments that had me laughing so loud that I disturbed my dogs who were snuggling with me on the couch while I read were a fun pop culture reference about insulting Voldemort when talking about her ex, and then a hilarious debate about courgettes vs. zucchinis. Which I immediately had to text my sister who is living in Scotland about that when I read it.

You can’t go wrong with a book by Emma Hart if you’re looking for funny, romantic, steamy, and sweet.

You know what I really like about Emma Hart's books? I know that every time I read one of her books I'm going to get a break my daily life if juggling work, teaching, packing, and wifing. I get a chance to laugh hard at purely entertainment. I take a little trip to the outlandish and I just love it there!! There's always something special about the characters Hart creates and i don't just mean those amazing main characters. Her secondary characters are some of my all-time favorites. They are side-splitting hilarious. It was just what the quarantine ordered after 2.5 months of lock down!!

Hot Mess was no different. I found myself delighted to be lost in an Emma Hart story where the characters are slightly insane and way over the top hilarious!! Elle is trapped in a crappy situation by an even crappies ex. Theo finds himself helping her out way more than expects. Ari is Theo's daughter and she seriously idolizes Elle. Ari reminds me of me own little 11-year old daughter that's obsessed with YouTubers and anything social mediaish that I allow her on. It's refreshing to know it isn't just my daughter obsessed with YouTube and the vlogs on it!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was really fun and sweet. Elle was hilarious and her banter with Theo was excellent. I really appreciated that this dealt with a very real topic of the dangers of social media. Not only does Elle have to deal with the adult version of social media drama and backlash, but she has a very real conversation about real life versus what influencers post for you to see with Theo's daughter. I really loved that part and have similar conversations with my kids about reality vs social media all the time.

Speaking of Theo's daughter, Ari is one of the awesome side characters in this book. This books has some charming side characters, and Ari is one of them. She one of Elle's superfans and has her dad wrapped around her little finger. She is full of energy and like any little girl, she is full of energy and always into something. She pretty funny and provides Elle with friendship and a distraction as she navigates her precarious internet fame situation.

This was a little different than Emma's previous books as the romance is a little slower burn and sweet. Most of her books are heavy on the romance and steam, but this one is alot sweeter and the characters take their time to get to know each other before taking things too far. I really liked the way their relationship progressed as it didn't feel like insta-love and overly lustful. Their relationship felt realistic and respectful. I really loved this and highly recommend it if you are a fan of rom-coms but want one that is a bit less explicit.

Elle Evans life is a hot mess. She’s run away from her home, her family, her city. She manages to make her away all to the Florida Keys, a small town where she can hid away from the drama surrounding her life. What she doesn’t expect when she arrives is meeting a British single father and his adorable nine year old daughter.

Elle is a lifestyle vlogger. She is clumsy, quirky and an idol to so many young girls. Theo has a lot of walls in place. He loves his daughter and she has him wrapped around her fingers. He’s somewhat of a grump, but does warm up to people. He knows who Elle is because his daughter is obsessed with her videos, he knows why she is hiding out and judged her instantly. However, she is living in his rental.

I loved the connection between Elle and Ari (Theo’s daughter). Elle was so sweet to Ari and truly bonded with her. There were so many sweet moments between them. Theo and Elle had a slow burn, but I loved the banter between them and their chemistry.

Hot Mess is a hilarious rom com. It is super fun, sweet, and quick read.

If you love single dad romances, a tropical location, an adorable nine year old, and a crazy group of geriatric conspiracy theorists this is a MUST READ!

Hot Mess is a breath of fresh air, it’s fun, witty and flirty and just what I needed. I was hooked from the first page and there was not putting down until I had read the final line .
Elle Evans is a vlogger and she has a massive following , life is good and she is having fun that is until her ex boyfriend decides to release a sex tape of her and that means she needs to escape New York. Elle knows she was set up but proving it is not going to be easy so she jumps in her car and heads for the small seaside island of Creek Keys.
Theo a hot British single dad owns a few holiday homes on the island but he is not inclined to let one out to the famous vlogger who his daughter is obsessed with after all how do you explain a sex scandal to your child who thinks Elle is the best thing since sliced bread.....
This book has it all, I laughed out loud, I smiled a lot and I loved everything about Hot Mess. The characters are loveable, the chemistry is sizzling and the banter is hilarious add in a trio of older ladies who speak their, some classic one liners only a child can deliver and you get the perfect romantic comedy. Ms Hart certainly knows how to give her fans the perfect read n a time when we could all do with some lighthearted flirty fun. I highly recommend this great read.

Special thanks to Emma Hart for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

When I received the advance copy for Emma Hart’s Hot Mess, I went in knowing what would happen based on the perfectly manicured formula Emma has concocted over the last few years.

But you know what? I was wrong and I am all about being wrong. Is there still sarcasm? Of course. Is there still a quirky grandmother squad running around? You bet ya!

But what made this book different is Elle’s character. After being set up, Elle finds herself in the Florida Keys hiding in a beach cottage owned by one hot British single father and his adorable nine year old daughter. Theo does not like or trust Elle at first. But what he soon realizes – and so does the reader – is that Elle is not who she seems to be. She’s not irrelevant. She’s not really even a hot mess. She’s smart, funny and cares more about how the scandal will effect the young girls that watch her YouTube challenge more than how it effects her. She has more depth.

Overall, Hot Mess is going down as one of my favorite Emma Hart novels. It’s a super fun, quirky break from reality. Plus, It is an enemies to lovers – my favorite troupe.

There is a lot to love about Emma Hart’s Hot Mess. Written with her unique comedic flair, this book also delivers a message about the internet, the good and the bad. Highly entertaining, I was also impressed with the lessons that Ms. Hart was able to weave into the story.

Elle Evans was remarkable in the fact that she actually thought about what she was doing with her vlog, career and life. Not one to usually make a rash decision, an untimely video has her looking for an escape and ending up in Cross Keys.

Theo, hot British dude with an adorable daughter, Ari, ends up being her rescuer even though he doesn’t want to be. Agreeing to let her lease the house next to his has him on guard. Not sure that Elle is an influence he wants in his daughter’s life, he quickly comes to understand that Elle is a good person that may be difficult to ignore.

With lots of laughs, a little heat and entertaining side characters, there is a significance to this book with its message about social media and it’s value in someone’s life. 5 Stars #2OCCMS

Hot Mess is a sweet single dad story.
Theodore lives for the happiness of his daughter Ari and will never do anything that could compromise their routine.
He doesn’t date and occasionally goes out with his best friend Blaire and Alex.

Elle had to run away from the big Apple and ended in Creek Key. Chastity helped her to sing somewhere to stay and she ends by being the girl Nextdoor... living next to the hot daddy house, her landlord.

To say that it was not love at first sight for Theo is an understatement but his daughter Ari is Elle’s number one fan!

Elle discovers herself as a person and not as the most famous YouTuber ... she has plenty of time to reflect on her life, friendship.
The banter between Theo and Elle shows that there’s chemistry there but will they act on it? Will Elle stay at Creek Key?

Special shout out to Theo’ s aunt and the Creek Key Conspiracy Krew!!

Thank you to EH for including Noelle to the story.

If you are looking for an easy read that will make you laugh, go do Hot Mess.

Hot Mess is an amusing, quick romantic comedy. I read it in one sitting, which hasn’t happened in awhile. The book starts with Elle on a road trip getting as far away from NYC as possible. She ends up in a small town in the Florida Keys, and decides to stay for awhile. We find out she is a famous lifestyle vlogger, and after a private tape is released by her ex, she is running from the media. As soon as she gets to town, she meets a young girl, who knows who she is and idolizes her, and the girl’s father, and he becomes Elle’s landlord. There are a bunch of meddling townspeople, crazy old ladies, and impressionable young girls in this cute town. There's also some good messages in there about social media. It’s fun, entertaining, cute and light on the romance. I felt like this story was a little bit different than Emma Hart’s previous books. But, it was a story I enjoyed reading and would recommend it.

When it comes to Elle’s occupation as a vlogger publicity is a positive however when her ex releases a recording of a private moment between them the opposite holds true. All she wants to do is escape the media frenzy, so she heads to Cross Keys to hopefully get the clarity that she needs.

Theo is a single father to his daughter Ari and she not only knows who Elle is but follows her as well. The last thing he wants to do is rent her a place to stay but if she is going to be his neighbor he is determined to keep her away from his daughter.

The best of plans go astray and soon not only the daughter but the father as well are enchanted by Elle but when she has a very different life to return to is there any other way for this to end but in heartbreak?

Fun and flirty I enjoyed not only Theo, Elle and Ari but the humorous cast of secondary characters as well.

This book was such a fun rom-com. Like with all of this author's books, I was laughing and swooning while reading. Had life not gotten in my way, I could have, and I definitely wanted to, read this in one sitting.

Elle is on the run after her evil ex-boyfriend let the world see a private video that she knew nothing about. When she ends up in the little town where Theo lives, she's forced to stay in his beach house as everywhere else for miles is booked up during the summer. I loved watching them all interact, especially Theo's little girl, Arielle.

While there were some serious topics in this book, they were handled extremely well and connected it to things that are happening in the world today with technology and I appreciated that.

This book was hilarious - I loved Elle and Theo. The slow burn was KILLING me. But despite that I loved that it was not all love-at-first-sight and they spent time together before becoming something more.

I loved the way Elle fought to find a way to solve her problem. And I loved Theo when he realised that she was not a bad person and he just wanted to help her and to get back het self-esteem which took a hit by her ex leaking their tape.
The side characters made this book that more funny with all the antics that drove Theo crazy.

Once again I was rooted to my seat fully entertained by one of Hart books and I'm looking forward for the next one.
