One accidental pregnancy. One fake husband. What can go wrong?

There’s nothing like starting your Monday morning with a positive pregnancy test.
Trust me, I know. Because I’m looking at one right now.
All I can think is: Oh, hell. My grandmother is going to kill me.
This might just send her to an early grave, so there’s only one option—pretending the father is my new husband.
If only he’d agree to fake it.
Kai Connors was supposed to be nothing more than a one-night stand. A long, dirty, one-night stand fueled by one too many tequila shots, where the only promise was to never speak of it again.
But if my unfairly sexy next-door neighbor gets his way, this fake marriage could turn out to be very, very real…

Light romantic comedy!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍
Character development: 🫣🤭🫠😮

The heroine: Ivy Stuart - after discovering she is pregnant from a one-night stand with her neighbor in the apartment across the hall, she worries about how to tell her parents and grandmother. She gets so nervous she tells them that her and Kai are in a relationship and are engaged.

The Hero: Kai Conner - a college graduate who now works as a builder, he has had a huge crush on his neighbor Ivy for a while when he finds out she is pregnant with his baby. He plans to stand by Ivy for the duration.

The Story: Kai and Ivy weren’t your standard one-night stand since they live in apartments across the hall from each other and are friends. They navigate their way through their new situation with a lot of humor and snark about their fake engagement and future fake marriage.

I noticed before starting this audiobook that there was a 41 page prequel which was about the one-night stand between Ivy and Kai and was very disappointed that that was also a separate audiobook and not included in this one. It was $24.95 and only 1 hour, so not really worth the price, but I probably should have bought the kindle edition and read it first. This one was a shorter audiobook at less than 5 hours so I think that should have been included, but it wasn’t so fair warning for those who like the entire story.

This one was told in dual points of view and narrated by Kale Williams and Avery Reid and they did a great job. Though Avery Reids voice is not one of my favorites, she certainly can do sarcastic humor well which worked for this character. I was in the mood for a light romance like this so I did enjoy it.

I'm so disappointed.
This book made me smile and I loved both main characters (specially Kai 😍). And I was enjoying the book... when I realized I had read about 90% of it and absolutely nothing was resolved. And then... epilogue! And that was it!
I know, I know that's life. I mean obviously you fix one problem and two others show up. But this is a romance book! I need some kind of closure in book, and there is none in this one.
So, that's the reason I am giving it this rating.

3 out of 5 stars!

This was a quick read with a fast-paced and lite story. The characters were very endearing but the overall story felt too quick and felt lacking to convince me to give it more than 3 stars (Though I have a feeling this was how Emma Hart decided to craft the story). Still, this was an enjoyable and easy read. :)

This book was so short, I thought I'd finish it in more or less 3 hours, but it took literal ages.

Main reason? It was just...not good.

Plot and characters were all over the place, and it was just hard to feel any connection to them, or simply care, to be honest. I felt like nothing happened throughout this whole story and 90% of the plot consisted of Ivy experiencing nine months worth of pregnancy symptoms during the first week she found out she was pregnant. It was so over the top, it just became annoying. I think there were more times Ivy discussed having to pee than her feelings/relationship with Kai.

That speaks for itself, methinks.

Ivy Stuart and her neighbor Kai Connor have a drunken hookup one night which results in a surprise pregnancy. Ivy likes Kai, but hasn't really considered him as a partner. Kai, on the other hand, has been crushing on Ivy hard. The two fall into a fake relationship that proceeds somehow into a fake wedding for the sake of Ivy's family and then things progress from there.

This is an incredibly muddled book where the central question just never gets satisfyingly resolved. The central question in this case being how much of Ivy and Kai's relationship is actually romance and how much is just the easy way that two people who are friendly cope with an impending baby. I guess it's realistic in that in the real world that situation would never actually be resolved, but this one doesn't even feel like its trying.

And when I say "muddled", I challenge anyone in this book to give an accounting chapter by chapter who knows what about Ivy and Kai's relationship status. Seriously, we're in spreadsheet territory here, and you can probably include the protagonists in that spreadsheet.

Finally, while the story is fun enough, nothing much actually happens with it and it ends very abruptly, just launching into a "Six Months Later" epilogue.

The Girl Next Door was an easy and pleasant read.
Ivy and Kai are a perfect match and you can only think that they will make great parents too.

Ivy finds out that she’s pregnant after a one night stand with her neighbor Kai. I have to say that I was impressed by her attitude as she took the news straightaway very well and so did he!! He is there for her and even stopped drinking coffee to please Miss Volcano.
Kai always had a thing for Ivy but never dared to let her know. Now that she’s expecting his baby , will he let her know the truth?
Ivy’s dad deserves the prize for best dad of the year.
I didn’t like very much the gran as I found her too much and overbearing.

This story was fun with good banter and will definitely make you crave for more... I wish there was more .

“He likes to think he’s a big, fancy alpha male, but he’s like a s’more–hard on the outside, gooey on the inside.”

“If his kiss was kryptonite, those words were his.”

The Girl Next Door is the super cute follow up to The One-Night Stand Next Door. But, never fear, if you haven’t read the short and sexy prequel, Emma Hart has you covered with a quick catch up of how Kai and Ivy got to where they are.

When we first meet up with Ivy, her world has been turned upside down. She finds out that she’s pregnant with her one night stands baby. She naturally freaks out, but nothing is more scary than telling her family and Kai. Join Kai and Ivy as they go on an adventure of a lifetime. Who knew that one night could turn into something utterly spectacular???

The Girl Next Door was a super cute and entertaining read. Emma Hart has once again given readers a hilarious, yet sweet read. The characters are a lot of fun and will keep you on your toes. There’s smart wit and entertaining banter. Ivy’s grandmother was a riot. I couldn’t wait to find out what would come out of her mouth next. I adored Kai and Ivy together. Kai is just the sweetest. He’s had the biggest crush on Ivy for like EVER! He wasn’t afraid to step up and do whatever was necessary to not only keep Ivy happy, but win over her heart.

The Girl Next Door is exactly the book I was looking to spend my morning getting lost in. There’s never a dull moment and Emma Hart will have you laughing in stitches. The characters are relateable and add so much to the story. And the best part, there was no drama. This was just a story that made you feel good and left you with a smile on your face.

This book was slowwww. Plus you didn't even get to see the baby being born...... And I don't like that this series and the bookworms guide are different series. They should be under one series since they are connected. It's silly and it's not the first time this author has done this. This book may be the deal breaker for me to quit her. It annoys the fuck out of me.

Connected to the The Bookworm's Guide Series. The Bookworm's Guide Series is about the sister of the heroine of this book and her sister's friends. They appear in this book first.

1. The One Night Stand Next Door - Ivy & Kai's book.
2. The Girl Next Door - Ivy & Kai's book.
3. The Bookworm's Guide to Dating - Kinsley & Josh's book. Kinsley is Ivy's sisters friend and Josh is Kai's friend.
4. The Bookworm's Guide to Faking It - Holley's book. Ivy's sister
5. The Bookworm's Guide to Flirting - Saylor I assume?

3.5 stars. This grandmother trope is getting real old now in Emma Hart’s books. Though it was a fun light hearted read, there wasn’t anything new to the story. No character development, no climax.

This was definitely the right book at the right time. I was feeling blah and struggling a bit, and this book had me laughing out loud. I Ivy and Kai were such a fantastic pairing. Kai was such a doll, and his pining for Ivy made me all sorts of mushy. It was very sweet watching Ivy realize Kai was the real deal, and I had such a great time watching these two fall in love.

Ivy and Kai were enjoyable and funny...although at times I think I wanted this book to be a little more serious as the subject matter kind of is. Not all the time, and not enough that I didn't enjoy it, not at all.

Let me back up a bit. As the blurb tells you, this one starts with the heroine realizing she is pregnant and that the baby is her neighbor, whom she had a passionate one night stand with.

Hilarity and awkwardness ensue, as one would expect of the premise of this book and knowing it was written by Emma Hart.

And, as they are finding their way to their happy ending, there are some bumps (literally and figurative...I didn't mean this pun as I was writing this, but I just have to leave it here now) for them to figure out how to get past.

The title is fun, it's sexy, and you believe in the characters. At times, as I said above, I did want a little more from this one, but it wasn't enough of a want for me to not enjoy the story.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Well, that was adorable! The Girl Next Door is Emma Hart’s latest romcom. I would definitely recommend reading the prequel, The One Night Stand Next Door, first though. While you can piece together what happened, the prequel actually shows their beginning.

Ivy and Kai are neighbors, who both secretly have crushes on each other, and at an apartment party, they end up hooking up. She ends up pregnant from this encounter. The story starts out with her getting the positive pregnancy test and having to tell Kai and her family as well about it. Kai and Ivy concoct this crazy story for her parents and conservative grandmother that they are actually married and having a baby. As you can imagine by faking it, things start to feel real after this.

I loved both characters. Ivy was a pretty stereotypical pregnant girl. Kai was swoon worthy and sweet as could be. We also met some secondary characters that look like they will have their own books in a new series. I look forward to reading those. My only issue was I felt like the story ended so suddenly. There was the epilogue and I just selfishly wanted more. I really hope we will see more of them in the other series. It’s a quick, fun read with great characters and I would recommend it.

If you’re looking for a book that will have you bent over in stitches laughing then you’ve found the right book and the right author. The Girl Next Door is a laugh out loud romcom that will have you instantly falling in love with the characters.

I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t read a book from this author in a while and I’m absolutely kicking myself because of it.

Kai and Ivy are the most lovable characters ever. The banter between these two is so incredibly fun to read. Watching their relationship grow through this book has been a joy. He’s protective and loving and will do anything and everything for Ivy, she’s quirky, outgoing and so SO funny, they’re the perfect match together.

Even the secondary characters are full of humour, especially Ivy’s grandmas, oh dear.

Emma has once again shown how incredibly talented she is with her writing. It has you hooked from beginning to end and leaves you needing more.

The Girl Next Door is quick, fun and full of humour. A surprise pregnancy romcom that’ll capture your attention from the get go.

I don't overly like Emma Hart's writing (her characters are all really similar, especially the girls with their introverted nature and insatiable love for wine and pizza and I don't like the way they talk about women considering they are women) but I can't stop reading her books?! The plots are quite entertaining trope wise.

For most of this book I was enjoying it a bit more than I had other books by this author, but suddenly at what felt like 2/3 of the way through the plot we were suddenly at the epilogue set 6 months later. A time skip through the pregnancy is one thing, but for the time skip to suddenly be the epilogue with other plot threads left unresolved? There was literally "oh yeah that other thing here's how we're fixing it" conversation.

I mean there are going to be sequels, so we'll see these character more over time, but Kai and Ivy won't be the main characters and I would have liked their story to be much more fleshed out.

Where do I start, I really enjoyed this book. It was hilarious, sexy and extremely sweet. I will say the editing errors and miss spelled words drove my crazy. The banter from all the characters was awesome. I also found that the timeline in the story was completely off. The book was about the first weeks of finding out about the pregnancy but you would think the pregnancy was further along by the way the character acts/reacts. The the time frame jumped about 7 months in the epilogue and then the story ends...disappointing. I did however loved this story just need more.

The book seemed to end very abruptly. I turned the page and it said 'Epilogue.' I was like, "What the heck do you mean it's the epilogue already?" It just seemed to end quickly without wrapping everything up in my opinion. Overall though, it was such a great book and I completely recommend. Emma Hart is such a great author in my opinion.

Mon avis en français

My english review

I love Emma Hart, so when this novel came out, I was more than eager to dive into the story.

Ivy didn’t expect to wake up early in the morning and find out she was pregnant. In a Catholic family, it’s not easy and she knows her grandmother will take it very hard. What better way to handle it than to say that Kai, the father of the child, is her husband. At least she’ll have some peace while she’s trying to make things right. But Kai has had feelings for Ivy for a long time and he finally sees the chance to win her heart even if it will be far from easy!

It was quite a nice novel and I liked to see how determined Kai was to charm Ivy. He’s going to do everything he can to make her feel comfortable and help her no matter what happens. The idea of pregnancy was pretty cool, especially since I haven’t read many novels about it. On the other hand, it’s true that among the author’s many novels, I didn’t get so hung up on it so much and I also found the ending a bit abrupt.

So I had a good time, but it wasn’t her best.

LORD, WHY ARE YOU TESTING ME??????
It was a height of struggle for me to finish this book! Really, I shouldn't have tortured myself like this!
Emma hart is delivering disappointment after disappointment lately.. Her initial books were good n funny but now it seems like she is in a marketing spree with bringing more than 6 books a year with awful content.. Quality is diminishing but quantity is rising.. That's not a good sign for an author n she is just disappointing her readers!
Now for this book.. It's in a string of books lately where the prologue is nice but the damn heroine ruins the book supremely! The banter between d leads was good to a point, after that it became pointless! The guy was nice, sweet n caring but he felt bland!
Now the heroine is another story! She is just an absolute brainless bimbo who is giving the hero a hard time n has absolutely no color in her character! She is no fun, highly annoying, massively whiny n acts like she has gone through hell in life when nothing of the sort has happened! She purposely fights her feelings for the hero n I HATE SUCH GIRLS!!!! They completely spoil the book along with its story n content! I can't fathom why authors want to write such characters!
The side characters are equally dumb n annoying! If there we're negative ratings scales, this one would tip it to the top rung of the ladder along with a lot others!! These kind of books are GREAT INSULTS for avid readers who have high book standards because we prefer good quality over a dumbass, horrible story!!!!

As usual, I adored this book by one of my favorite authors, Emma Hart. Now while you don’t have to read the prequel, The One Night Stand Next Door, reading that is definitely something that is nice to have the background knowledge of how this whole pregnancy debacle began. I loved the snarkiness of Ivy with her pregnancy hormones, as well as Kai’s sarcastic personality and his interest in Ivy to begin with was just as sweet as could be. Also a usual thing we find in Hart’s stories is a wonderful group of friends and siblings that if we’re lucky, she’ll be giving us their stories in future installments of this series. There was even a bit of an Easter egg about characters from other books in this one too if you’ve read her other books. And you can’t have an Emma Hart story without a wacky grandma, although this time, she was a good Catholic woman and that is what led to the fake marriage with the pregnancy forcing Ivy’s hand.

My only complaint is that we didn’t get to see this all the way through to the baby being born. I get that will probably be part of the other stories, but it seemed as if it made this one end kind of abruptly for me. Still, this is really a sweet, fun, quick read, which let’s face it, a lot of us need just that right now!

The Girl Next Door picks up right whether the prequel leaves off, with Ivy finding out she’s pregnant after hooking up with Kai, her neighbour after a party. Unsure what reaction she’ll receive, she tells him the news and is happy to learn he’ll be there for the baby. They should be able to start an amicable co-parent relationship except for two things, one, Ivy’s family and two, their insane attraction to one another. So, to combat one of those issues, Ivy lies and says they’re engaged to placate her grandmother, but with that lie, it pulls them closer together, and means their chemistry is even harder to ignore. The lines begin to blur, and now neither of them knows what’s real and what’s not. Can they be honest about their feelings before the baby arrives?

These two were cute, the banter and flirting were fun to read, and I was definitely rooting for them. I didn’t really like how everything was done to appease her grandmother, the lies did seem to get more ridiculous and confusing, with everyone ending up not sure what was happening, let alone Kai and Ivy. But I like how intertwined their lives already were before the pregnancy, they were a good match before. The storyline was just chaos, and I did feel like it was sort of unfinished as obviously the next books in the series will show the birth etc. but I’d have liked a few more strings to be tied up in this book rather than reading another story to see their happily ever after.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

I sped through this book! I really enjoyed Ivy and Kai's story, it was light and fluffy and lots of fun. They're both easily likeable characters and even though there's a whole fake relationship to try and put her crazy Grandma at ease, you just know its going to work out for these two.

I really hope to read more about their friends too, as there is a great friendship circle in this book.

A great one to read if you're looking for something sweet, light and fun. Recommend this!

I’m a big fan of emma hart books and I liked the prequel before this and I was excited about it, but it just seemed so rushed? everything was rushed and I didn’t feel anything while reading it.

I loved both characters as individuals and at the beginning then 60% everything was rushed? no one knows they were faking the marriage? He didn’t explain why he got her the ring and no the explanation he told her doesn’t make sense to me! you don’t go and buy a ring to the mother of your child that ypu have feelings for a ring just because.

Also is colton’s name colton lane ? Or his name adam colton? Because at some scenes he’s colton and other scenes adam idk if it’s a typo.

that being said I’m a little excited about kinsley and josh / also colton and tori HOPEFULLY.
